  • What do you do for a living?

Well I have been on vBulletin for many years now, and don't really know what many of you do for a living, if you study what you major in, or what grade you are in. What do you want to do (if you don't like what you are doing now).

The creation of this thread has many reasons:
    1. Better inform myself of my fellow members
    2. The normal users will probably respond to this thread -- these normal users are probably the same users I have been working in and out with the past few years.
    3. 1 & 2 but applied to you.

My sig pretty much sums it up.

I do mow a few lawns & try to set up at festivals to promote my webhosting.
I was really lucky this week, I attended the 4H fair & sold sites to politicians.
I walked in, didn't even buy a booth... Ahh, ALL profit. LOL

You must be good at selling yourself to walk in and sell your products. A great skill to have!

SysAdmin for a small company. 3-person IT dept, 150+ workstations/servers. Do virtually everything inhouse: build machines/servers, database writing, networking, POS, email, web, etc etc etc.

Very little time to devote to our company forum. Grateful vBulletin is stable, reasonably customizable, and skinnable. But I always enjoy tinkering with vBulletin. It's a nice way to relax and do something fun.

I'm interested, too, in what other forum admin's do for a living. I've always suspected I'm in the minority when it comes to how little time I can spend on my forum. Plus I think the admin requirements of a company forum are different than a broader community.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Winding down on a Friday afternoon,
        D.

I've just finished my final year at college, depending on my grades I'll take a year out and go to university in Sept 2006. For the last 5 years I've been working part-time as a web-developer/designer (more of the former than the latter)

Well, I'm older, and disabilied, so can't do much other than run the website, and make computer pinball games for a hobby. I use to be part of the games industry, as a wholesaler, and even owned my own arcade at one time.

Now days, I write manuals and tutorials for my community, and do some custom photoshop work, and the odd vbscript program.

I design and develop websites for a living. This includes everything from high-level consulting all the way to low-level programming work. On average, the type of work is usually related to planning/designing/prototyping/implementing/supporting website designs. It gets me enough to lead a comfortable life. I'm surprised that I get just as much business without an actual website as I did when the site was up.

What doesn't pay the bills is me being a student at The University of Texas at Austin. Majoring in finance at the McCombs School of Business right now. I'm lovin' it.
