Domain Expiration rules?

Just out of curosity, if a domain is set to expire, and is in a PENDINGDELETE status, can it be registered ? What if someone snagged the domain when it never ever left the PENDINGDELETE status?

Thankfully I have no experience with these things. I always get a domain that is free for registration, add the years I want to use it at least, and slowly add more years as I think it will continue. If I don't know if it will continue, I don't add years. This way; no body snatchers on my doorstep!

There is about a 90 day grace period after a domain's expiry date before it is available for registration again.

3 months to wait then. And yes it is annoying if you really want a domain and its just sat there not being directed to anywhere appearing to not be in use.

It's not 90 days. It's the registrar's 30-35 (average) EXPIRED STATUS days, ICANN's 30 day REDEMPTION period, then 5-7 in PENDING DELETE.

Our transit agency wanted a domain (a dot org) what would've fit perfectly and was not being used. Emailing the domain's owner never got anywhere.

I feel the same way... I currently have 3 domains I'm looking at that others own. One was just renewed, but contacting the owner gets no replies. The others are expired and going through the above process I guess
