It's used like so:

I'm not sure how you use it with regular old HTML, but that's how to use it in widgets.

When will there ever be an TABLE option in the editor to insert tables into a post ?

I am not sure if that would ever be an option since I guess you could mess up the layout, if you forgot to close the table tags.
