  • get into DOS with just a simple USB-drive?

    Hi there!

Here are the instructions on how I can update my motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/support/index_BIOS_INS.htm

My Problem is, I can't get into DOS because I don't have a working floppy drive.

I, however, have a small usb-drive (128 MB) and my motherboard allows booting from a usb-device.

So, is there some software that allows me to have a bootable USB-drive so that I can update my Bios?

Oh I forgot: Iam on XP SP2.
    That's the end of that!

Go to http://bootdisk.com and download one of the dos startup zips. I use the ms-dos one. Extract it to your usb drive along with your bios file and then boot from it.
I just noticed it costs money to access the files on that site. You'll have to do a search for the disk or make your own.
I use a pen drive since I don't have a floppy either. Newer motherboarrds can be flashed in Windows. You might want to check if they have a utility to do this.

      Hi!

I followed the instructions here: http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/crea...dvd_or_usb.htm

It works (the booting) but I can't access my harddrives and when the bios-file is on the pen drive DOS won't load anymore..

Do I have to make a small FAT-partition for the bios file which can be access by DOS?
      That's the end of that!

Fat or fat32. Just make sure it isn't ntfs.

Oh ok.. I hope a small partition is enough for this small update.

Any free software you can recommend?
