The problem is not the boarding of 850 people. You must evacuate 850 people in max. 90 seconds. The flightcosts of A380 against 747 are 20% cheaper. If you can board 850 people the cost benefit raises and also the earnings for the airline, because i believe the tickets will cost the same

As this story develops more and more the parallels with 'The Aviator' become more and more obvious. Boeing (Panam) take a backseat and let Airbus (Hughes) take the venture into the big plane industry. Ah such a good movie...

you know this plane would be good but just think if these planes were in service on 9/11 or worse they build these new planes and new terrorists slam them into the new towers. it may be a pesamistic view but still its worth thinking of amping up airport security greatley before letting these planes into service.

Not sure how much worse it can get? The planes took down some of the biggest buildings in the world, what would a bigger plane achieve apart from the extra deaths on the plane (which are few compared to those on the ground).

There is a big issue in security and that is one of the concerns with the airbus, it'll mean more security staff in the terminals, security staff onboard the plane etc.

Well these aircrafts are a like a flying city/bomb.....

All a terrorist got to do is hijack one of these and you got 800 people hostage instantly..

Blair at the moment can't see the end of his nose because of European accomplishment/pride, and well it's undoubtly a great achievement. Blair will wake up when something happens to one of them (a crash, an explosion, terrorist attack)....and then we'll see what he has to say.

Since when did the launch of the world's biggest aircraft become a political issue

#1 The thing hasn't even got 1inch off the ground yet
#2 It won't do for at least another year

I think it got political the minute Airbus decided to use "government funds and piggy banks" to fund development for the A380.

A terrorist can also hijack a ferry. There are lot of more people on board and security is low. Or a train, a stadium, a cinema, ......
I can't hear it anymore. Terrorists here, terrorists there. My Neighbour? The bus driver? The teacher? The world has a terror paranioa.

And Boeing gets no government help? Who do you makes the planes flying around Iraq right now? There is a trade war between the US and Europe over subsidies to airplane makers for over a decade, both of them get huge help from their respective govermnets. It is bad they get help (I really hate corporate welfare) but to suggest its just Airbus that gets help ignores a lot of the facts. Check the recent economist article on this.

I also fail to see how capturing a plane of 800 hostages is worse than 400. Once you start reaching a certain number of people, having more dosen't appear to me to make the situation that much worse, its already so bad. Of course, as Streicher said if its just lots of people you want, a cruise ship would be a lot better choice anyway.

There are over 26,000 commercial flights worldwide every day. The issue of hijackings in comparison are very low and inconsequential statistically. This becomes an issue if there is virtually no airport security (ala US Airports pre-9/11) or if you are running for re-election as President of the United States.

This is how most countries do business around the world. The US is the exception to this rule with its laissez-faire method of business regulation. Many countries have subsidized core industries they feel is crucial to their economic development. If the US did this outside of funding its war machine, then the economy here would be stronger and more resilient.

However, notwithstanding federal business investment guidelines, Boeing has received Federal Bailout from bankruptcy in the past as a investment in future technologies. Also almost every major airline in the US has received government subsidies in the past including a $20 Billion dollar aid package after the 9/11 attacks specifically to try and keep the airlines out of bankruptcy. Unfortunately the airline companies squandered those resources and continue to be a drain on the economy with their money losing business plans.

Don't knock other countries policies when it your own's that development is behind.

Yeah. And can you imagine the "splat" that one of those planes will make when (not if) it crashes?
