vBPortal is amazing. It still need some development, but i am impressed because it isnt a hack. It doesnt modify a vBulletin file and is really easy to install.

    Best regards

This thread no longers serves a useful purpose. It is no longer a discussion on the two portals but people stuffing the ballot box by a request on vBPortal. I haven't seen any such post on vBadvanced to come and defend it.

I use vBadvanced and like it. There are some quirks.
I'd try vBPortal if I can have the portal in the same directory as my forum. It doesn't so I stick with vBadvanced.

vBadvanced is free so you can try it out. It is easy to install and uninstall.
If you find it doesn't work for you, try vBindex or pay for vBPortal.

I think each have good and bad points.

This is indeed a sad story. But I have seen real bashing of VB portal happening on all VB affiliated site...I have never seen this in any of thae softwares sites...I till wonder why VBPortal is being targeted probably little more systematically....it may have it bugs...and so is any software...

I tried VBAdv, VB Index and finally settled on VB Portal. In the current market, this is the only nice portal I found @ a resonable $$ .

umm how can people stuff the ballot? You can only vote once.

And why vote for it if you haven't used it?!??!

Another reason I enjoy vBA more is b/c of the fact they support it like crazy and they seem to have a lot more mods/hacks/addons etc and more "community" support.

                vbPortal is supported very well!
umm what hacks/mods/etc does vba have that the vbPortal doesn't have custom OR added on?

It's been a long while since I've tried vBa, but I don't recall them having (at the time I tried it) any where NEAR what vbPortal has, stock. Plus the vbPortal does NOT require you to hack any vB files AT all! (well one, IF you want ... it's not needed. still works great without that file being changed. LOL)

I have been using vbportal for 3 years and have never had any problems with it.
I like it because it doesn't Interfere with vbb when upgrading vbb.

                    • Blah blah blah, too much insecurity in this thread. Let me break it down to you.

VBA= Free but that comes with various modifications and can be very time consuming. But hey if you are the do it yourself person and are the type of person that doesn't need much help and have the time, this is for you.

VBP= Like any software, takes a bit getting use to (2x vs 3x= world of difference), but once you do, its great. No modifications, easy install, and extremely fast tech support 24-7 only for $20 which last an entire year, and thats the tech support for a year, you can still use the software (not a license). I waited on vbp to go gold for quite some time, once it did, the skin compatibilities were almost instant. Even one of their staff members installed the portal skin, which I had on my forums to save time.

Oh and please quit the false accusations on the software till you've used both, heck you shouldn't even vote till you've used both.

Good point. I have used both. I probably would use vBPortal again if it could be installed in my forum directory.

                        • In the forum directory? ... Do you mean in its own folder?? IF so, then it IS possible. they now have it set so it will accept a subdirectory. all you have to do is let it know in one spot where the portal is.

When I tested out the subdirectory feature it worked really well, mind that was still only /portal and forums in /forum ...

But it should work as /forum/portal ??? *makes not to test this on test machine*

                          • I am really happy with my vbportals. I tinkered with vbadvanced a bit but it wasn't for me. Different strokes for different folks.

Well I use vbportal, but to comment on your site www.318ti.org, which uses vbadvanced, your left column is messed up in FireFox and messed up in a different way in IE. I dunno if thats your coding or vbadvanced.

Also, you have 176 coding errors alone on that homepage.

VBportal is xhtml 1.0 trans compliant. Is vbadvanced? Doesnt seem like it to me, but these should be taken into consideration if you are going to compare the two.

                              • I tried vbAdvanced briefly, it seemed OK. After I uploaded vBulletin 3.03 on top of everything, I never re-installed the hacks required by vbAdvanced.

I'm now trying to get used to vbPortal, which I like a lot. It is capable of doing more than what I wanted. What I like best: No worries when upgrading vBulletin, since vbPortal requires no code hacks of vBulletin code! I just installed 3.0.7 per vBulletin's readme, and everything continues to work as it should. So, color me happy with vBulletin and vbPortal!
