  • What does it take to get listed on a search engine?

Neither my domain nor any of the text in my forums is found by google or yahoo searches.

Is it just a matter of time or do I need to be active in getting listed.

so once you get listed, on Google for example, they must 'index' your site quite frequently. I have posts I've made on site that are 'found' on google a day or two later.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a very important factor in any site nowadays. There's lots of great resources over at sitepoint as well as many helpful users in the forum. Check it out @ http://www.sitepoint.com

Basically all that I've found out at sitepoint is that I should have links on other sites to the site I want listed....so far that hasn't worked.

              Any other ideas?

Add the URLs to your sections to google, get linked back on other sites, and wait.

It will come eventually, starting with a level 1 deep scan.

How do you submit them? Do the various search engines charge a fee to accept a submission?

Some do. Others like google don't.

If you want a higher pagerank, submit your site to dmoz.

Do you think the reason I am not listed on search engines is because I have a "whois guard" (it masks my domain registration information) for the domain?
