    P4 Motherboard Suggestions

I need suggestions for a pretty good P4 motherboard. The max price is probably about $150, but I could possibly go higher. Basically I'd like it to be as good as possible for that price. I'd also like a high capacity for DDR SDRAM. No integrated video. Nothing that's choosy about RAM or is often known for problems.

I am very happy with my Abit IC7-G MaxII. The Max III is better, however, but closer to $300.

The one I got was an Asus P4C800 Deluxe which was highly receommended by a number of people on these forums. The cost was around $180.

I also have a Asus P4C800 and it has been great for me.

I run a P4 3.0ghz w/ 800mhz FSB on it, and it has been great to me.

            I second this one.
I've had this mobo (same line) for a while now, and it's great.

I third this. I have a IC7-G Max III and I love it. It overclocks great. Its stable and has tons of features. Probably one of the more expensive boards ($180) but worth it if you are interested in overclocking and cooling.

The board sounds really good. What is that air duct on it? Is it effective? Can it be turned off? Should it be? Is it loud?

I am quite fond of the OTES/air-duct. It grabs heat right off the processor and capacitors and sends it out of the chassis. Because heat rises up, the heat has no where to go other than the OTES duct. One problem with air cooling is trapped heat, which the OTES eliminates. I had an IC7-G Max II before the Max III, but sadly I was not an avid overclocker until I got the Max III. So I don't know if the OTES makes a huge difference when cooling your processor. I know it helps none the least.

You can turn it off by unplugging the fan from the motherboard. It is a standard 3 pin connector like most other fans. It’s not loud at all. The loudest fan in my chassis is my PSU fan which is very quiet as it is.

Another vote for the asus P4C800 although I hear the abit runs a close second to it.

Or maybe consider the P4P800 Deluxe. Costs less than the P4C800 but performs similar.

The only thing the P4C800 has going for it is the gigabit ethernet with its own controller, really.
