  • Internet Explorer, Being A Pain

Okay, it seems that whenever I type an address into Internet Explorer, and the website cannot be found, I am automatically redirected to some site: http://www.incredifind.com/index.cfm...rldforums.net/

Why on Earth is it not displaying the great error page, that I prefer? Is there any way to change it back to the way it was before, when handling errors? And no, I will not change browsers

    Thankyou,

    Alcar...

Oh, looks like a hijacker attempt

Try Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. That should remove that annoying software
    That's the end of that!

Your browser has been hijacked by some spyware.

      Try Ad-aware
      http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10...age&tag=button

      and Spybot Search and Destory
      http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors

Then consider switching to Firefox as IE has some security holes installing this which have yet to be patched by Microsoft.

          Thankyou to all!

Actually, I do have Firefox installed, and I use it frequently. But I just prefer using IE most of the time.

          Thankyou again!

Amen to that, well until it becomes used widely and we end up in the same state lol

Just don't click "Yes" when asked by your browser. And do some research before installing software to make sure it doesn't contain spyware. Then you will be spyware free.

                    Jake not true.

There are 2 exploits that dont require any user interaction to execute a exe from a remote site. My aunt managed to get herself invested this way and i've as yet been unable to remove it with any of the traditional methods. It regenerates itself with a random dll if you try and remove it even though I killed the exe running and ripped it from registry it still installed itself again.

Scott, it stores a small ftp program into one of the windows system directorys, the most effective way to remove it is a system restore, then boot into safemode and remove it. if i think its the one your talking about.

lol, the title cracked me up. You're repeating yourself by having pain and internet explorer in the same line.

Lol, I guess I'm good at tautology

I think I was in the same boat as Scott's aunt. I hardly download anything, and everything I download is usually mainstream (so usually it is reliable). This has happened before, but I forget how I fixed it. Either I inadvertantly destroyed my hard drive, or it went away

Well, as least everyone can sleep better tonight knowing one less hard drive has perished.
