How can Thunderbird beat Gmail? Gmail is another pair of shoes

Gmail can send and receive emails, thunderbird still needs a pop3 or imap account to send/receive emails. Or did i miss something?!
    That's the end of that!

I have used thunderbird for about a month now. It rocks.

      Buggy, but good.

I dont really care about the gmail comments either, i have a 25gb inbox with thunderbird. (And that said, i delete my email after reading it)

Gmail sucks compared to a dedicated webserver with IMAP where you have 100% control over its operation, and what spam filters and countermeasures you can install.

I like Thunderbird, I might switch over to it from Apple Mail, as some of its small shortcomings have gotten annoying.

Installed 0.7 on mine last night and parents machine today. I'll do my girlfriends machine tomorrow probably

They all use Thunderbird and dont notice any difference since they weren't trained to use a specific mail client. Now getting them to use firefox is a different story.

                      I am yet to upgrade.

Is it possible to upgrade and keep everything? There is a pretty significant message on the installer that says DELETE 0.6 first.

How do you deal with it? I couldnt find anything on the thunderbird site about upgrading

Yep ... can't compare an email client with an email service ... apples and oranges

Not slow at all, in fact it's really really really fast for me.

But don't worry, I understand one is a stand alone client whereas the other is a on-line service.
