cPanel MySQL backup file

I have the option to download a .gz file dump of the selected mysql database through cPanel, but .. it doesn't delay in a nanosecond. It gives me the impression this file isn't instant, but like a dump made on a weekly or daily basis.

I really need to know if this .gz offered of the database is real time (from a minute ago) or from an hour, day or week, month?

The cPanel documentation didn't shed any light on this. Hopefully someone here knows.

Wether or not you are trying to back up vB, you can make a post then immediately backup and either check (crtf+f) the database to see if it is there or restore it to your test forums

I rather not download 100+ mb .gz to just test 1 new post

Do you have a test board, probably much smaller.

It is current as of the minute you make the backup. I made a backup of a site that I am running. I then applied a new design to the site, I opened the gz file with winrar and then manually inserted the tables through phpmyadmin and had my site running again within an hour. A member who signed up just before I closed the site and made the backup was still there.

I just can't imagine that from the moment I click on the link, the system gets the database, dumps it and gzip it and offers it to me.

It just goes too quick.

I doubt that it pulls the entire file in a nanosecond, I would imagine that it streams the data from the DB and uses something like zlib on it to make it stream to your PC instantly.

I haven't checked in awhile but as I remember cPanel backups are made nightly for end users to download... It may have changed though...
