If this were XP, what would, in your expert opinion, be the specific cause and remedy?

    Thanks.

Doesn't sound like anything XP specific to me..

Would you know how to fix this particular problem if it was on XP? If so, by all means, explain it, as the procedure is likely to be exactly the same.

    Yet another Win2K problem

This one is a real problem.

I cannot get USB drives such as portable HDDs and flash pens to work with my Win2000 machine.

The drive is shown in My Computer and the contents are visible but when I try to open or copy any file there is an error that the device is not ready or the door may be open.

Bizarrely, disconnecting all CD-ROM drives from the computer fixes it though this is not a viable option.

I have read somewhere that disabling write behind caching for removable media can help but I don't know where to do this or even if it is the right thing to do.

Can any of you kind souls help fix this thing?

    Thanks.
