  • Cpanel backup/restore

    Hi all

I am wondering if anyone know, does a Home Backup on Cpanel also backup the databases? I'm talking about at the top where it says Generate a Full Backup?

I am thinking it don't backup the databases. If I am correct them I am pretty much SOL with my site. The servers disk crashed this morning and I was thinking I was safe with the full backup. I tried restoring one twice and nothing changes.

Yes, it does backup your databases and restore them properly. This is how I moved my sites from one server to another when the previous hosting provider changed my root password and did not forward it to me without reason or explanation (and no, I wasn't behind in payment).

The only thing it does not backup is the members of your mailman based mailing lists.

Hummmm....mine doesn't seem to be working then. My backups are just under 100MB and it takes almost an hour with Cable to do the restore. I get the huge screen that shows everything that was restored, yet when I get to the site, none of the members that should have been restored have been restored.

Should I delete the database that I am trying to restore first?

I always restored on an empty site. Never had an issue such as this.

Well I will try it deleting the database first. I can't ruin the site anymore than it already is. This is sad for me.

Wayne, I figured out the restore did work. I thought restoring the complete home backup would place all the files in their original paths but it didn't. It placed them in the /home/tvpijnjn/restored/public_html etc...

What is the easiest way to be able to use the restored files in that directorie?

Using CuteFTP (I am sure others do this as well), you can highlight files and mass-move files to the directories you want, which would probably work better for you since it didn't stick the files back in public_html.

With CFTP you can highlight the files, right click and select move and enter the directory.

Well I found out it's a useless restore for me, the images are all binarie files and are not restored to what they should be. The databses are also restored but in directories so they are all worthless to me. I simply uploaded my backup to the server and my host is going to restore the files for me now.
