  • Cable account gets free upgrade soon!

I couldn't resist sharing it with the world

I recently moved and getting nothing but improvements.

My old connection had some issues with the cable modem for it wasn't quite compatible with their new optimized network for cable connections.

This new place got me a) a new modem, b) choice to pick a channel id when I experience latency, c) I can see how many users are on my line and can switch to a less busy one to maintain optimal performance and d) the upstream went from 128 to 256kbit

Now I finally got news that it will get another 128kbit extra for free which finally makes it usable for me. But even better, I am getting an additional mbit to my downstream.

Seeing is believing, especially with this crappy internet provider as UPC is. But we will see in May how things go.

    Currently:
    1536 / 128 <-- official, but I got 1536 / 256 (180kbyte/s down and 25kbyte/s up is my average experience)

    Becomes:
2560 / 384 <-- nice .. now it is cheaper then the DSL alternative I wanted to switch to I don't mind downloading a .sql dump with about 300kbyte/s and still having enough bandw left for normal browsing

For about 40 per month I think I am quite settled there!

Very nice, I'm paying out of my ass for 3 Mbit/645 kbps. $90 a month.

    I hate Sprint.

      3000/384 for $45 a month here in Central Florida(started out at 2000/384). DSL is 1500/384 for $49 a month.

      and that's pretty sweet.

Nice, but how many of these prices include bandwidth limits? My ISP NTL imposed a 1GB a day limit well over a year ago, think I took notice of that for about 3 minutes, gone past that nearly everyday since.:P

Not sure about elsewhere but bandwidth limits do not exist in the US. My home network currently pulls 10-20 GB a day depending on what we are doing but there are times where we stream music on two different computers.

I believe NTL in the UK once had a limit of 1gig a day. Not sure if it is still like that now though.

I just asked because in the UK there are tons of offers for cheap broadband, dsl or whatever that sound great, read the small small print though and you come across the bandwidth limitations which sucks really. I think NTL still do have the limit, but they do not appear to actively enforce it which is good.

In the US we have limits too. On my connection I'm limited to 10Mb per a second tops on download and 1Mb per a second tops on upload. If you mean yearly/quarterly/monthly/daily/hourly/minutely, that is just plain wrong.
