  • What does vBulletin mean?

Every brand name has its meaning and suddenly I started wondering what special meaning the "v" has.

vBulletin i think was origonally designed for a Visual Basic website, VB, the name imho obviosly derives from that.

May of meant Visual Bulletin but now they say it means nothing.

A lot of people have different opinions. I'll list the ones said so far:

                  vBulletin is a recursive acronym.
vBulletin is the next letter from U. (UBB)
vBulletin stands for (Virtual) next from U.
                  vBulletin is vB (Visual Basic)

All I can think of on the top of my head. I added one that was not said though.
                  Running vB since 4-14-2002

I always guessed it was for Virtual Bulletin, but never knew for sure.

The most likly candidates are V being after U as in UBB, or the Visual Bulletin.

I personally think it was either Visual Bulletin or otherwise linked to Visual Basic but realised later VB has stigma attached and chose to deny the link.

I don't even know why we even bother with these questions as employees. Especially when no one reads the answer given.

It has no meaning now, doesnt mean it once didnt.

The fact it was developed as a Visual Basic forum and is called vBulletin is a mighty big coincidence, i'm not saying it even has to mean anything, i just beleive that there is/was a link between the names deliberatly, even if there is no link now.

                              Catch my drift?
