    Buying a new video card

I was going to get a new GeforceFX 5900XT to replace my Geforce 3 until I found this Radeon 9800, which, according to an average of Tom's Hardware's most recent VGA charts performs effectively as well, and can be had for slightly cheaper.

    Which one is better?

Note that this is not a Pro...if it makes a difference.

I would get the pro. I picked up a 9800 Pro OEM for 207 and its worth the extra money. Its a sapphire make, and their a damn good GPU company.

Pro makes a big difference. I Agree about waiting...There will be significant price drops soon, so I would wait, otherwise grab a 9800 Pro.

Buy SAPPHIRE Radeon 9600XT 128MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card ULTIMATE RADEON 9600XT with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

I was going to get that because my neighbor needed a new card and I will need one in the future. On Sunday I received Far Cry and on low settings I get 45FPS average, which is fine for me. I'll either get the 9600xt or the 9800xt in 6 months or a year. I hear good things about the 9600xt.

Not only does that have great cooling and a great look, it also comes with HL2 with an affordable price.

More like in a couple of weeks. The NV40 is about to be released and it's going to destroy all.

They are going to be DX 9 with perhaps Pixel Shaders 3.0 (nVidia) and 32bit precision support (ATI).

The next version of DX will be intergraded with Longhorn which isn't due out until 2006.

By the way, I advise you to wait for the next generation ATI card to come out.

For a few months, then ATi cards will come out and ATi will resume leader for another year.

Where did you get that information? The ATI front has been pretty quiet.

Take a look here. Its mostly nVidia news because their NV40 release is coming close, but the few articles about the R420 look promising. I'm pretty sure that ATi will resume their position as number one in the performance area.
