    here's one that I picked up somewhere (don't remember where now). It can be a lot of fun:

    If you have a background image or pattern, you can make translucent boxes over it. All you need to do is make a checkered image with alternating colored and transparent pixels and then use this as your cell or table background.

    Yep, I've used that on a few sites I've done

    Here's an example of the 'screen' image (as I call it) - see attached. This was for a blue-themed site, but you can obviously change it to suit any colour sheme
