I tried to put a picture there repeated X and Y (option "repeat") and it doesn't work. Can someone please take a look and tell me what to fill those blanks with?

Repeat x or y is not needed unless you want an image to multiply like a tile image to make a pattern across the background.
You can see in other parts of the stylevar list, the format for an image is
                Code:
                url(path/to/your/image/xxx.yyy)
To pin the image down so it doesn't scroll when the user scrolls the page you do it like this:
                Code:
                url(path/to/your/image/xxx.yyy) fixed
For an exsample click on my url in my sig. The image is large enough to cover the biggest screen in higher resolutions. The image is pinned by the fixed added to the url.
