How to replace the top vB logo

How do I add an image as a background and how to replace the standard vB logo at the top of the forum

Admin Control Panel > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Dropdown: StyleVars > Path to Logo

Enter your own logo filename there,
when done, save the page and upload the image to your web server.

I have created a logo but have lost the white border at the top of the default style
Could someone give a step-by-step on how to use the "bump" which I have (the psd) to make an effective logo in Vbulletin? What needs to be edited or paid attention so that when you change one thing, something else unexpectedly changes also (my white border)
I'm running 3.5
Floris - your instructions are great but I guess my question is what if I want a (gasp!) logo that is 200 px tall? How wide can I go? WHat else needs exiting for a successfull logo change?

If I shrink the logo it will probably work but I would still be interested to know how to adjust it for any size without losing anything in this case the white border on the top. The entire top white border disappeared not just at the logo
