In the navbar template find

<br />

And change it to this

<if condition="THIS_SCRIPT == index"> [COLOR=red]your code here [/COLOR][COLOR=black]</if>[/COLOR]

Edit the header template and find

 

And remove it and add your own text.

I cannot find any instance of <br />
<br /> in my navbar.

That template has not changed signifaantly, have you made any modifications to your navbar template?

Just throw it at the end of the navbar template, below everything else.
