  • how to recolor the buttons?

ok, i downloaded the graphics development kit. i open one of the layered images, say "new thread". i remove the layer for the text so all i have is just a colored button (well by remove i mean click so its not viewed). then i try to use the gradient tool to recolor the button, and get this mssg:

"could not use the gradient tool because the target layer is hidden"

i dont understand what they mean-what target layer is hidden?

this is really frustrating, i have a bunch of different styles anda i want to change the buttons so they match the colors, but i just dont get how :/

    i'm using photoshop 7.0 btw

can someone explain it in terms a 5 year old would understand?

Make sure you have selected the right layer!
And make sure it isn't locked so you can modify it.

Otherwise try the tool vButton Pro for version 3 (download from graphic forum)

You have the layer with the text still marked, even though it's hidden.
Click on the layer that you actually want to change.

i got it i had been thinking that clicking the "eye" that lets you see a layer selected it, and not clicking on the layer itself. now i know how to do it and am making buttons for all my styles... thanks a lot
